"I Am Love" tells the story of the wealthy Recchi family of Milan, whose lives are rapidly changing. The family patriarch has surprised the family by willing shared ownership of his massive industrial company to both his son Tancred, and his grandson Edoardo Jr. Meanwhile, Edoardo Jr. has other plans, dreaming of opening a restaurant with a talented chef friend, Antonio. At the heart of the family is Tancredi's wife and Edoardo Jr.'s mother, Emma, a Russian immigrant who has adopted the culture of Milan, and whose existence is shaken when she enters a passionate love affair with her son's friend Antonio.

Just watching Tilda Swinton on screen is a pleasure. She is captivating. The love story between the wealthy Italian wife and her son's best friend is captured beautifully. The passion between them is palpable. The slow pacing adds to the films effect and draws you in. Great drama is created though the classical soundtrack. This film will make you want to fall in love and move to Italy!

35 out of 100  One of the better modern italian movies

A very watchable Italian film set in Milan, around a wealthy family, an industrialist husband, a bored, beautiful housewife, and three grown up children. Beautiful cinematography. A little slow, but you are still kept interested throughout. If you're not interested in Italy/Italian cinema, then this probably isn't for you.

20 out of 100  Not great

Flavio Parenti looks good as Edoardo, and I spent much of the film hoping he was carrying on an affair the chef. Swinton is good, speaking Italian with a Russian inflection. The director employs unconventional shots, and the film is a whole is heavy on visual metaphors. Italians sure know how to dress well.

The Northern Italian scenary & the architecture of Milan alone would make this a movie worth watching. Beautifully filmed and superb acting it emphasises the suffocating power of family, wealth, and tradition. In spite of an ending that borders on the absurd I really enjoyed this movie.
