The Evil Dead, director Sam Raimi's (Darkman, Quick & The Dead, Army Of Darkness) first feature film, is a true cult classic in every sense of the word. Originally released in 1982, The Evil Dead tells the tale of a group of friends who go to a cabin in the woods, where they find an unspeakable evil lurking in the forest. They find the Necronomicon, the Book Of The Dead, and the taped translation of the text. Once the tape is played, the evil is released. One by one, the teens become deadly zombies. With only one remaining (Bruce Campbell), it is up to him to survive the night and battle The Evil Dead. This version features a new transfer supervised by Sam Raimi, along with the theatrical trailer and animated menus. This title will be packaged in a new clear jewel case with five variations of a visible picture disc.

15 out of 100  Pantomime horror
John from Dublin, 14 Dec 2007
Classic 80's gore horror. I must admit this kept me up at night for two weeks after I saw it - but then again I was only 11 and probably shouldn't have been watching it then. Watching it today, the movie is more succesful at making you laugh for its cheesy thrills. If you have the director/star commentaries on you'll see they are equally amused by some of the themes. Can still be enjoyed if you watch it with a tongue-in-cheek attitude. 1.5 stars for nostalgia.

35 out of 100  A classic gorefest...
Hazel from Dublin, 18 Jul 2008
...which may not appeal to anyone but true afficienados of the splatter horror film. A really good scary movie for it's time - it hasn't dated badly. Fans of the horror genre should definitely give it a go.

30 out of 100  Yeah, creepy movie
David from Dublin, 11 May 2010
Far more creepy if you imagine the main character has gone insane and is just hallucinating everything while attacking his friends. Otherwise, yeah, a horror movie that starts slow but throws some serious surprises before the end.
