| "Each week, six contenders are selected by lottery, assigned cameramen, armed with guns, and forced to battle it out by killing one another on TV. The last one left standing advances to the next episode and a new round of contenders. When I wrote the script, in 1995 the idea of real people killing each other on TV seemed like science fiction, but given the current trend in reality programming - in which people battle for food (and money) on an atoll, eating rats and larvae for sustenance - it seems less far-fetched. … In 1998, I teamed up with a TV "runner" (an established producer) and pitched the fake reality show concept to a network executive as an actual series. The first round of notes came back from the executive. "Can it be more sexy and less violent?" Less violent? But it was a TV show about people killing each other on TV. Excellent cult movie. It really does what it says on the tin. The lack of big names and shaky camera work makes it all the more believable. After having untold numbers of Big Brother nseries you really wonder how far fetched this idea really is!
